FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Does Entrega lease poly containers?
Because product can leach into poly, we chose not to offer operational lease programs on poly units. We will customize a two to five year capital lease for most applications.

Are there minimum time periods required for leasing?
Yes, our IBC rentals have a minimum of 30 days and our larger equipment is two to three years depending on the program. We can customize capital leases to fit your companies needs.

What hazardous materials can ship in an IBC?
Most liquids with a packaging group of II or III provided the shipper has ensured chemical compatibility with the contact surfaces of the container and references the 49 CFR for special provisions listed under that specific chemicals MSDS.

My product is fairly heavy, can the IBC handle it?
In many cases it boils down to the handling equipment. Most of our units will handle nearly sixteen pounds per gallon material.

Can I use a DOT 57 marked container to ship my hazardous material?
DOT 57 tanks are “grandfathered” in the federal regulations. Per 49 CFR 173.32 (d), use of a DOT 57 tank is authorized only for a container constructed before October 1, 1996 but is limited to North America.

I believe my UN rated container has passed its retest requirement period. What is that required timing and how do I test?
According to 49 CFR 173.32(e)(1)(ii), federal regulations mandate that all UN Specification IBCs should be pressure tested and recorded at least once every 2.5 years. They also need a thickness test performed and recorded every 5 years.

What is a UN number?
The UN (United Nations) number is clearly marked on the container per CFR 49. The UN number includes the following information:

  • Code number designating type of IBC
  • Packaging group the IBC is approved for (Group II and III)
  • Month/year of manufacture
  • Country authorizing the marking
  • Name of manufacturer or certification agency
  • Maximum stacking test load in kg
  • Maximum permissible gross mass in kg
  • Rated capacity in liters
  • Tare mass kg (estimate)
  • Month and year of initial leak proof test date
  • Month and year of initial inspection date
  • Material of construction
  • Minimum Thickness requirement in MM
  • Maximum Fill-Discharge Pressure in KPa’s
  • Manufacturer serial number

How many gallons per inch will my container hold?
A standard 42”X48” metal IBC will hold approximately 8.75 gallons per inch of sidewall.

How many stainless steel IBCs will fit in a truck?
Depending on the trailer design, most can fit fifty two empty 350’s on a 53 foot unit and twenty six empty 550’s on the same trailer.

Can you tell us what units/material is compatible with my product?
In most cases we can offer suggestions based on the Compass Corrosion and other guides. Ultimately the shipper is responsibility to ensure compatibility. There are resources out there so feel free to contact us and we will direct you to the best source for your needs.

What is and why do I need a fusible cap? Fusible caps are typically a 2” poly plug or 3” metal outside thread cap that is located in the center of the 22” manway lid. This devise relieves pressure cause by heat during a fire and is required by DOT per 49 CFR 178.253.
